NorCal Extreme2007/2008 SeasonNote: this document is also available in rich text format. Welcome to NorCal Extreme, a family of traveling, tournament level roller hockey teams. As an organization we strive to maintain a constructive, but competitive environment in which each skater can develop to his or her fullest potential as an individual and as a hockey player. As an organization we are committed to player development as well as to being highly competitive at the regional and national level. To this end, we will field “platinum” and “gold” teams in all age groups in which the number of players is sufficient to permit fielding of 2 teams. In age groups with only one team, opportunities will be available to practice and play as a member of a developmental squad. The specific goals of each team will be established as the squads are formed, but the fundamental goal of our organization is always to compete at the highest level of tournament play appropriate to the make up of each team. For the platinum teams, this will be the Pacific Cup and NARCH tournament series. Players can and will move between rosters based on developing skills of individual players and team goals to compete at the highest appropriate level for a given squad. OrganizationNorcal Extreme is a nonprofit organization managed by a board of directors who are responsible for all decisions that are made in response to recommendations from the coaches and a committee of parent representatives from each team. The intent is to allow the coaches to focus their efforts on player and team development while the board and parent representatives take care of administrative tasks. Coaches from each team, together with parent representatives, coordinate activities both within the individual teams and between teams in the organization. SeasonTournament hockey involves a commitment to an extended season. Each team will practice on average 3 hours each week and participate in one to two tournaments each month. Players are expected to attend all practices and tournaments. Tryouts are in October, practice and warm-up tournaments are held in the late fall. For the 2007-2008 season, the 18s, and 21s teams will not begin formal practices until January 2008. The active tournament season begins in January, regional finals are held in late June and early July; national finals are in July. EligibilityThe program currently includes seven teams: Atoms (8 and under), Mites (10 and under), Squirts (12 and under), Pee Wees (14 and under), Bantams (16 and under), Midgets (18 and under), and Juniors (21 and under). Player eligibility for the upcoming season is determined by their age on 1 January 2008. Girls may play a year longer in each age group, e.g., 11 year-old girls may play in the "10s" division. CoachesWe are delighted to welcome back head coach Roman Hubalek. In addition, we will add several new assistant coaches at each age level. Assistant coaches help with practice and travel with teams to tournaments as either the assistant or primary coach, depending upon staffing commitments. Current coaching assignments for the coming season are as follows: Roman is leading practices for all age groups assisted by Bob Blakewell (8s), Gary Nunes (10s), Jim Wilson (12s), and Steve Glander (14s and 16s). More information on the coaches and assistant coaches may be found here. FeesThe organization is aggressively seeking fundraising opportunities to keep fees as low as possible. Nevertheless, tournament roller hockey remains an expensive activity. Total fees are calculated to pay for coaches, rink rental and organizational costs. Families may pay for the entire season, through 30 June or on a monthly basis. If you choose to pay monthly, you will be billed $145/month, due on the first of each month (for January through June). For billing purposes, the season has two main sessions, November & December, and then January through mid-July. Nov-Dec are combined into a single fee, due 1 December. Your Nov-Dec bill will include a non-refundable registration charge of $50 that is used to cover organizational costs, plus practice fees. Nov/Dec charges vary by team owing to their practice schedules (see table below). The 18s & 21s teams January fee is $195 ($50 registration charge plus $145 monthly practice fee).
A full explanation of monthly dues and where your money goes can be found here. NorCal Extreme Questions about billing may be directed to Shirley Gee. Tournament fees are an additional cost. Teams usually participate in one to two tournaments each month. Costs vary from $25 to $70 per tournament, depending upon entry fees, coaches’ costs, fundraising activities and the number of players skating. Some tournaments may require an overnight stay. Players are responsible for making their own arrangements, although team parents frequently help to coordinate travel plans. UniformsPlayers are responsible for purchasing their own uniforms, which include both home and away jerseys and pants. Approximate cost will be $100 to $120 per player. InsuranceNorCal Extreme players are covered under USA Hockey insurance. USA Hockey insurance is now used by Davis Inline Hockey Association (DIHA), Davis Blue Devils Hockey Club (Davis High School Hockey), and Extreme. USAH insurance is also required at many tournaments. Thus, the annual USA Hockey membership ($25, expires 31 August annually) will cover most of your hockey adventures. Applications and information about USA Hockey membership can be found here. Community ServiceNorCal Extreme solicits and receives substantial support from local businesses. In return, the organization strongly encourages community service contributions from all team members. The extent and details of this service are part of the seasonal goals developed by each age group. For example, during the summer and fall of 2004, Extreme 14s/16s/18s/21s players taught Special Olympics participants skating and hockey skills. |
